This month in Biblical Wisdom for Flourishing, we’re focusing on Healing and Restoration. And we begin with Jeremiah’s prayer:
“Heal me, Lord, and I will be healed; save me and I will be saved, for You are the one I praise” (Jeremiah 17:14).
Jeremiah spoke these words in a time of crisis. His people were divided, his own life was under attack, and yet he prayed with confidence: only God could make him whole. That prayer wasn’t just about the body. It was about the soul, the mind, and even his identity as God’s servant. Healing, in the Bible, is always about restoration to God.
We see this in Jesus’ healing of the woman in Mark 5. After twelve years of suffering, she was not only cured physically but restored emotionally and spiritually. Jesus called her “daughter,” gave her peace, and welcomed her back into community. She was made whole - an experience that trenscended just healing.
Psychology tells a similar story. Several studies show that prayer and mindfulness calm the body, that trusting God in hard times builds resilience, and that social support can even lengthen one’s life, especially when found in the context of community. Wholeness touches every part of who we are.
So let me ask: what part of your life needs healing right now? Your body? Your emotions? Your spirit? God still heals. And when He does, our response - like Jeremiah’s - should be praise.
Happy New Month!
