Shot Upwards, But Grow Downwards.
Today on our #ChangeTheWorldSeries I want to talk about why you should grow towards light and belance.
Do you want to grow? I mean, REALLY grow. Then there's a secret to it.
Plants are a great teacher.
Their secret? Growing upwards but rooting to the ground.
They always reach towards the light, but never forget their need for stability.
This is phototropism and gravitropism.Â
Phototropism is growing towards light. It is a metaphor for life.
Growth is not always easy, but if we keep moving towards the light, we will find the resources we need to thrive.
But trees also have gravitropism - growing downwards to anchor themselves to the ground.
It is a balance; you can't grow upwards without also growing downwards.
Plants grow towards light because they need it for photosynthesis. They grow towards gravity because they need stability.
You know what else grows towards light and stability? Humans.
We call them change makers.
Change makers recognize that growth towards the light (e.g., new knowledge) and towards stability (e.g., self-care) are essential for personal growth and success.
So, if you want to grow, be like a tree - reach toward the sky, but make sure your roots are deep.
As you grow, don't forget to balance it out.
Spend time on the things that ground you: your relationships, your health, and your values.
Trees are always looking upwards, seeking the sun. But, they never forget their roots.
This teaches me to grow towards both light and balance.
- Discover where your light shines.
- Reach towards it constantly.
- But don't forget your roots.
- Embrace stability and balance.
We need light to grow. But, we also need balance to be rooted.
We can have our heads in the clouds while still rooted in reality.
And, just like trees, change makers need balance too.
Too much light and a plant can burn. Too much stability and it can become stagnant.
It is the same for change makers. Too much growth and we can burn out. Too much stability and we can become complacent.
So, let's take a lesson from plants and aim for balance.
Grow towards the light and stability, but don't forget to balance your roots.
That's the secret to a fulfilling life.
