You Can't Flourish Alone

Biblical Wisdom for Flourishing – Episode 19

In a world that often celebrates independence and self-reliance, the biblical vision of flourishing calls us back to authentic community. We were never meant to thrive in isolation. God even reminds us, “It is not good for man to be alone.” Flourishing, in the biblical sense, is always relational.

In this episode of Biblical Wisdom for Flourishing, Dr Counted looks at what it means to belong—to live in a community where we are seen, known, loved, and called higher. An authentic community is known for three things:

  1. it is consistent,

  2. it is an encouraging community,

  3. there is a shared sense of purpose.

Psychological science backs this up: strong social bonds are one of the most powerful predictors of well-being. But Scripture goes further, calling us into communities not just of support, but of transformation. Communities where we bear one another’s burdens. Where confession is met with compassion. Where diversity is not just tolerated but treasured.

If you’ve been feeling disconnected or spiritually dry, this episode is for you. Come rediscover the sacred gift of belonging—and why flourishing is a communal calling.

And if today’s episode resonates with you, I invite you to explore this topic further in my new book, Bonding with God (Baker Academic). In it, I explore how our relationship with God forms the foundation for every other relationship in our lives—including our experience of community. If you’ve ever wondered why spiritual connection and human connection go hand in hand, this book will show you why.
