After taking a break, I’m so excited to bring back our series, The Psychology of Different Cultures. This series is all about exploring how culture shapes the way people think, feel, and connect. When we started last year, the goal was to understand the deep connection between psychology and culture. Now we’re back, and what better place to start than South Africa—a country full of history, diversity, and resilience.
South Africa has a story unlike any other. Its people have faced challenges and overcome struggles that have shaped their outlook on life. The country’s rich traditions and unique aparthied history give us an amazing opportunity to learn about the connection between culture and psychology.
In this episode, we will look at these three key themes":
Resilience: How South Africans deal with and rise above challenges like apartheid, inequality, and rapid change.
Community: The role of Ubuntu, a belief in shared humanity and connection, in bringing people together and supporting mental health.
Identity: How culture, language, and pride shape how South Africans see themselves in a multicultural society.
I believe that this episode will help you see South Africa from a fresh perspective.
Thank you for being patient during our break. I am excited to continue this series with you and share more stories about the psychology of cultures around the world.
Stay tuned for more episodes, and please share your thoughts and suggestions in the comments. I’d love to hear which country you think we should explore next! 🌍
